Join Illinois historian Joanna Dowling for a trip through the Midwest via some of the regions lesser-recognized roadside rest stops and waysides. Learn about the past and present of the non-commercial places to stop along the heartland's highways including Minnesota, Iowa, Illinois, and a few other remote spots. No registration required.


Museum Maker Mondays Kits

Keep kids occupied this summer with our craft kits filled with a variety of creative materials and activity suggestions.Kids can choose from different Museum Maker Monday kits such as Hummingbird Feeders, Foldable Frisbees, Baseball Hat & Pennant, Shadow Boxes and more. Kids and their caregivers can stop by our outdoor table at our Education Center on select Mondays to pick up a free kit. Limit one kit per child, while supplies last.

Travel Photo Contest
June 1-August 31 FREE

Bring back special memories of past vacations by participating in our online Travel Photo Contest! Simply e-mail a digital copy of your favorite or best vacation photo with your name, email, phone number, and a brief description of where the photo was taken to: Only one admission per person will be accepted. Photos will be considered by a panel of community judges, and the top three entries will win a special gift basket of items from local businesses. Entries will be shared on social media and web site.

If a hometown staycation is in the plans this summer, no worries—the Elmhurst History Museum has some local adventures in store. Take a tour of Elmhurst, either on foot or two wheels, and try out a fun plaque scavenger hunt to share with family and friends while adhering to safe social distancing. Elmhurst Walking & Biking Tours
Embark on a local biking or walking tour that takes a 5K loop through Elmhurst pointing out interesting historical places and sights along the way. DOWNLOAD MAP HERE

Bronze Plaque Adventure Scavenger Hunt
Take a trip through time and learn a little local history while searching for Elmhurst treasures captured in bronze (and stone). Look for clues at each location and fill in the answers to become an Elmhurst history detective. Appr. 1.5-mile loop through downtown Elmhurst, starts and ends at EHM. DOWNLOAD MAP/CLUES HERE
