Heart’s Desire: Reflections on Love & Marriage
When Cupid’s arrow strikes, the love that grows is celebrated and communicated through a variety of romantic gestures and traditions. Contemplate the power of love represented in unique and never-before-displayed 19th and 20th-century wedding gowns from the Elmhurst History Museum collection. View photos of local brides who wore these special dresses—including a black gown from the late 1800s—and learn about the history behind modern wedding attire. Explore an array of exquisitely-detailed valentines spanning 100 years including a few vintage “vinegar valentines” and other romantic tokens of affection. The community is invited to bring an unreturnable copy of personal wedding photos to leave behind in the exhibit.
