The evolving concept of freedom and its pursuit is explored in this touring exhibit from the Gilder Lehrman Institute of American History, illuminating critical figures and events from our nation’s birth until 1968. Highlights include: reproductions of a rare 1776 printing of the Declaration of Independence, a secretly printed draft and official copy of the U.S. Constitution, Lincoln’s handwritten speech notes, and letters by Frederick Douglass, Susan B. Anthony, and Martin Luther King, Jr. The exhibit is supplemented with Elmhurst materials including a 1924 KKK rally flyer, manuscripts related to the Elmhurst Fair Housing Ordinance, and correspondence from veterans from the Civil War and WWI eras.

Who are your favorite dinosaurs? Is it the mighty T-Rex? Or maybe the stealthy Velociraptor? Make your choice and come play “Say Bones!” a fossil-filled version of the classic Bingo! Led by Ron Solberg, you’ll learn about million-year old fossils such as trilobites and crinoids while playing the classic game. Geared for grades 3-5, adults are welcome to play too! Rock and fossil prizes will be awarded!
