Join Elmhurst History Museum Executive Director Dave Oberg for a sweeping analysis of more than two centuries of famous and infamous presidential campaign posters, and the underlying strategies that drove them. Explore images of iconic campaign posters and even a few local stories of presidents and presidential candidates who visited Elmhurst over the years.

The hardworking American political poster first appeared in the 1844 presidential election, and it has attempted to catch both eyes and votes through the use of powerful visual language ever since. This national traveling exhibit showcases a variety of presidential poster styles, design trends, and printing technologies spanning 168 years. Explore 50 colorful, high-quality reproductions of the most exciting and rarely-seen presidential campaign posters in our country’s history.

"Moon Over Buffalo" by Ken Ludwig is a laugh-out-loud farce stuffed with "comic invention, running gags, and a neat sense of absurdity " (The New York Post). In the play, Charlotte and George Hay are on tour in Buffalo, doing “Cyrano de Bergerac” and “Private Lives” in repertory, when they receive word that Frank Capra, the famous Hollywood director, is coming to town to see their matinee. This could be their last chance at stardom!

Following Kristallnacht in November 1938, the Movement for the Care of Children from Germany was formed. In nine months almost 10,000 unaccompanied children were sent to Britain, most of them Jewish. Diane Samuels interviewed adults who were these Kinder, these children who survived the Holocaust, weaving their experiences of loss, guilt and discovery into the play.

Elmhurst Choral Union, guest soloists, and professional orchestra perform Liszt’s Coronation Mass and Schubert’s Mass in G, under conductor Scott Uddenberg. Both composers are best known for other musical pursuits. Liszt was the star pianist of his day, and his piano compositions continue to please (and challenge) pianists. A senior editor at National Public Radio, Uri Berliner recently revealed the moving story of how his father escaped the Nazis when his parents put him on a Kindertransport, a children's rescue train. Berliner will share that story and those of other Holocaust survivors during the annual Holocaust lecture at Elmhurst College.
