ELMHURST QUARRY TOUR 

NOTE: TICKETS ARE SOLD OUT as of 9/3/19

Time: 9:00 a.m.-4:00 p.m. 
Take a behind-the-scenes tour of the Elmhurst Quarry Flood Control Facility, a historic local site and one of Elmhurst's earliest businesses, generally closed to the public. Participants will learn about the quarry's history, visit various areas including private quarry viewing platforms, and see how DuPage County Stormwater management operates the facility to reduce flooding in the area. Tours depart from Elmhurst History Museum's Education Center via bus every 30 minutes from 9:30 a.m. until 2:30 p.m. and last approximately two hours. Some walking on uneven terrain and signed waivers* required. Age restrictions: 10+, no exceptions. Maximum five tickets per person.
*MANDATORY QUARRY TOUR WAIVERS:
Registered participants must download and complete a Quarry Tour Waiver for each participant.

Shiza Shahid is an entrepreneur, technologist, and impact leader who co-founded the Malala Fund with Nobel Prize winner Malala Yousafzai. As its founding CEO, Shahid focused on creating access to high-quality education for all children around the world. Shahid will describe her work with Malala, her struggle to create social change, and how ordinary people can make extraordinary waves. Presented by Elmhurst College in partnership with Elmhurst History Museum's exhibit, The Power of Children: Making a Difference.
