New ‘Cue for a Cause 10th Anniversary features
The 10th anniversary of Elmhurst Walk-in Assistance Network’s most important fundraiser, ‘Cue for a Cause, is introducing new features to make participation accessible to all Elmhurst supporters, whether you’re in town to enjoy this fun event in person (and the aroma of barbeque!) on September 1st, or not!
These new features include—a first for us—online auctions! Auctions opened on July 1st with our initial item listings. Visit the auction listing here!
The first items listed include a full day of golf and recreation at the beautiful River Forest Country Club, and excellent tickets to the Chicago Bears – Minnesota Vikings game!
Perhaps even more exciting for some… there are parking spaces for York High School students, always in high demand!
Check back often as new items will be added all summer. The online auction ends on the day of the ‘Cue, September 1st, at 6:45 pm!
2024 is only our second year hosting team fundraising—our 2023 teams had so much fun we HAD to do it again. Gather your neighbors, family and friends and form a team!
Elmhurst Walk-in Assistance Network is serious about preventing homelessness and evictions, and keeping Elmhurst families in their homes, in the face of challenges life sometimes presents.
Many people are surprised to learn that 47.2% of Elmhurst renters spend more than 30% of their household income on rent, which makes them vulnerable when unexpected setbacks occur. 6.1% of Elmhurst residents over age 65 live below the poverty line, and more than 2800 households in Elmhurst are “Asset Limited, Income Constrained, & Employed” (A.L.I.C.E.). These are astonishing statistics. But all of us have a heart for Elmhurst and our community is ready to help. That’s what makes Elmhurst such a special place to live and raise families.
Join a team or form a team on behalf of EWAN! A team member donation of $500 will help pay the rent or fund a car repair to allow the working poor to keep working. $125 will help them keep the heat and lights on.
Any team member donating $75 or more will receive a limited edition We Have a Heart for Elmhurst latte mug as a special thank you.
Even better, if your team has the highest total donations, the team will be awarded a prize that allows them to host a team party—an added bonus for helping support a great cause. (Last year’s winning team had an excellent Christmas party together with their prize!)

More about the 10th Annual ‘Cue for a Cause, the most delicious BBQ fundraiser!
The 'Cue for a Cause is a fun, amateur barbeque competition of some of the best BBQ Masters of the Grill! The event takes place on Saturday, September 1 on Labor Day weekend from 12:00 - 7:00 pm at the city parking lot at York & Valette Streets in Elmhurst. Local barbeque enthusiasts bring out their smokers and enjoy friendly competition. A panel of judges awards the contestants for the best ribs, chicken, BBQ sauce and the coveted Grand Champion! The public can taste the BBQ sauces and vote on their favorite. Barbeque Jim will be selling his famous BBQ sandwiches along with providing a host of options hot off the grill. And back by popular demand will be Taco Chapultepec for those craving some spice! Beer, wine and other beverages will be available.
Enjoy live music acts throughout the day, a children’s play area, peruse the raffle prizes and view the online auction! Bring your friends and enjoy a spectacular day! Visit the 'Cue for a Cause today to donate to the auction and raffle, or sign up to volunteer. Teens can volunteer for service hours.
