We are pleased to announce the return of the Superior Ambulance Service Elmhurst Cycling Classic on June 8, 2024!  The event is FREE to spectators who want to enjoy a day of exciting bike racing around some of Elmhurst’s prime destinations - Elmhurst University, scenic Wilder Park, and the historic Wilder Mansion.  Hosted by the DuPage Cycling Foundation, a 501(c)(3) not-for-profit, the event seeks to provide our community with a thrilling event for athletes and spectators alike.  And ultimately, the event seeks to raise money for community members in need and the charities that serve them.

There are several new and exciting developments for 2024:

First, the race will be the Illinois State Championship venue which means athletes from all over Illinois will make the trip seeking to be our state’s top racer in their category.  With a total purse of over $7,500 across the bike races, we anticipate drawing the Midwest’s strongest athletes as they go for victory on this fast, challenging, crowd-packed course.  Per Race Director, Tim Radcliff, “Elmhurst has a reputation in the racing community as being a fast, technical, and super exciting venue.  Initial response to the return of the ECC has been amazing – from racers and fans alike.  The crowds around scenic Elmhurst University and Wilder Park make Elmhurst special.”

Second, we are proud to introduce the Elmhurst Twilight Mile, a running race on the same course. Powered by Elmhurst’s CK Running, the race is for all runners who can complete the mile in under 10 minutes.  Director Charlie Kern said, “I have dreamt of a road mile in Elmhurst since 1993! We look forward to our many local runners testing themselves for the most understood distance race besides the marathon. Furthermore, we are excited to welcome elite runners who fancy the chance to run in front of large crowds and be encouraged to challenge the 4-minute barrier in what is arguably the most historic running community in the country!”

$1,200 of prize money is up for grabs as elite runners from the region come to Elmhurst to compete.  Registration opens on December 1st, 2023.

Prime viewing areas include the Start/Finish Expo arena on Prospect Avenue in Wilder Park, as well as the popular Wilder Mansion Beer Garden.  There will also be residential parties around the course, and many fans will head to “the Chicane” at Elm Park and S. Hagans to see the racers navigate the S-turns at high speed.  Of course, one of the best ways to see the course is to ride it.  So, we are bringing back an Elmhurst favorite – the Elmhurst Park District Family Fun Ride –a free event for the whole family to ride the course after the Twilight Mile finishes.

The volunteer-only board of DuPage Cycling Foundation looks forward to bringing back this exciting day, and welcomes support from volunteers, sponsors who wish to promote their business, and from donors who share our mission of doing something wonderful in Elmhurst while helping those in need
